Toronto: Halloween in the Village
This year, some of the most memorable costumes were the H1N1 virus, a massive clear plastic ball with performance artist Anna Banana inside. She was surrounded by doctors and soldiers (in dress-up, of course). Joan Crawford made an appearance, as did a string of drag queen Santas and a drag queen roller derby team! We even saw someone dressed as a bowling strike, complete with flying pins and a wooden laneway. One of the subtlest costumes I've ever seen was a guy in a tshirt and jeans, carrying a backpack. Sticking out of the backpack were a mannequin leg and arm. He had the front grill of an air conditioner dangling from the pack. It took me a few seconds to realize he was dressed as Dexter, the TV character! While most people come to the Village on Halloween to see the outfits, there are so many people who go all-out and dress up in some remarkable costumes, that I decided to set up a photo album. You can visit the photo album online to see more than 100 pictures from that night... and we were only there for an hour!
