| No Drinking. No Drugs. No Lesbians. This documentary looks at Penn State's women's basketball team under coach Rene Portland. Narrated by swimming great Diana Nyad (who Phranc sings about in Amazons!). Talented players are summarily dismissed, in Jen Harris' case at 1am, by homophobic Portland. Harris, and others, refused to be at the top of their games only to be let go from the Lady Lions because they were lesbians. They fought hard, and Penn State fought back. Training Rules takes the disturbing facts of the Harris vs. Portland case and personalizes their impact by telling Jennifer's story as well as those of six other women who were victimized through the years. Together they unveil a litany of betrayal, abuse, humiliation and bigotry. |
