| Alla Nazimova directed (under her husband Charles Bryant's name) this extravagant version of the Oscar Wilde play, with sets and costumes by Valentino's wife (and Nazimova's lover) Natasha Rambova, who based her work on the erotic drawings of Aubrey Beardsley. Sensual and wildly stylized, the story of Herod's vixen stepdaughter who danced for the head of John the Baptist is delightfully outrageous. Reportedly, the film was made with an all-gay/lesbian cast and crew. (Color Tinted) |
